Reflections from another great year on the barrens
Summer – Breaking Personal Bests: Lake Trout Fishing
It was a cooler start to our season this year and the conditions and temperatures varied. Unfortunately, the bugs made their presence known this year – more than we’ve seen in a number of years, they were a nuisance but that didn’t stop the record board from filling up.

Several times we came to breaking the 39-pound fly-fishing record set in 2024 by Tim Perry, with several lake trout over 30+pounds caught and released, including a number of 38 lbers. But Tim’s record still stands… for now. And congratulations to Renee Labernik, who hugged and released a 40-pound monster this season!
Autumn – Nature, Hiking, Fishing, Photography and Aurora
Nature lovers explored and hiked the barrenlands, perusing some marked locations on Point Lake in the steps of Sir John Franklin on their 1812-1819 overland expedition in search of the northwest passage. Lake Trout fishing record board catches continued and wildlife sightings included caribou, grizzly bears, sik-siks, weasels, and a variety of birds from raptors such as the peregrine falcon and eagles to songbirds. There were a lot of signs other animals were around as was evident in tracks and scat left on the ground.
The northern lights did not disappoint, rewarding those willing to trade sleep for late nights to see the light show. The landscape was a tapestry of autumn colours, and there was an abundance of blueberries and cranberries, the mushrooms were plentiful as well.
Lodge Enhancements
Along with several maintenance projects, we’re delighted to share that another of our guest cabins was renovated this year—complete with an ensuite washroom. The majority of our cabins now offer this amenity, adding a touch of comfort and convenience for your stay.
With Gratitude
Whether your trip this year was your first or your 34th, thank you for enriching our lives with your friendship, laughter, and love of the North. Each visit adds another chapter to the story of Peterson’s Point Lake Lodge, and we’re deeply grateful for the memories shared with you on the barrens.
Thank you for those that have already booked for next year. If considering returning, now is a great time to book for 2026. We look forward to welcoming you back for another season.
And thank you for to all who took the time to provide your feedback from this season and sharing your photos with us.
